Privacy policy
How we handle your personal information, in plain English. Last updated September 2026.
Who we are
“We”, “us” and “our” means Mortgage Cost Comparison, a trading name of Abacus Mortgages Direct Ltd, directly authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (firm reference number 465465). For the purposes of UK data protection law, Abacus Mortgages Direct Ltd is the controller of the personal information described below.
You can reach us about anything in this policy on 01244 571640 or at hello@mortgagecostcomparison.co.uk.
What we collect
When you complete a callback request form on this site we ask for:
- Your name, email address and phone number
- Your occupation
- Your postcode, so we can match you with the right lenders and local support
- An approximate town or region supplied by our hosting provider, and the page you enquired from — used only to understand where enquiries come from
- Your preferred callback time
- Basic mortgage information, such as your current balance, lender, deal type and property value, or — for first-time buyers — your deposit, target purchase price and income
- Anything else you choose to tell us in the notes box
Our calculators run entirely in your browser. The figures you enter there are not sent to us or stored unless you also submit a callback request.
Why we use it
We use your details for one purpose: to prepare the mortgage comparison you asked for and call you back at your preferred time. The lawful basis is your consent — you give it by submitting the form — and, once we advise you, our legitimate interest in providing the mortgage advice service you have engaged us for.
We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for marketing you have not asked for.
Who we share it with
Only the advisers at Abacus Mortgages Direct Ltd see your enquiry at first. If you go ahead with a recommendation, we share relevant details with the lenders and, where applicable, insurers on the panel we approach on your behalf — and only the information they need to assess your application. Each lender is a controller of the data it receives and processes it under its own privacy notice.
How long we keep it
If you decide not to go ahead, we keep your enquiry for up to 24 months so we can pick up where you left off if you come back to us, then delete it. If you become a client, we keep records for the period required by financial services rules — typically five years after the business completes. You can ask us to delete your enquiry sooner at any time.
Where it is stored
Form submissions are stored in a secured, access-controlled database hosted in the European Union. Access is limited to the team, protected by individual sign-ins.
Cookies and analytics
This site sets no advertising or tracking cookies. We use cookieless, anonymised analytics that count page views without identifying visitors, so no consent banner is required.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, delete it, or restrict how we use it, and withdraw your consent at any time. To do any of this, call 01244 571640 or email hello@mortgagecostcomparison.co.uk and we will act within one month.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. If your complaint concerns the advice service itself rather than your data, you can refer it to the Financial Ombudsman Service at financial-ombudsman.org.uk.
